Rhode Island Women in the Trades is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization established in 2019.
Our mission is to educate, organize and expand RI’s current and future tradeswomen to become one voice advocating to ensure fair and equal access to information, training, and opportunity for employment in the construction industry.
These opportunities will help all women, including unemployed, underemployed, single mothers, women of color, LGBTQ plus, and marginalized women to achieve economic empowerment and upward mobility resulting in a plethora of skilled, qualified tradeswomen, to help build and maintain Rhode Island. These are lifelong careers and we are focused on equal opportunity.
To foster opportunities that will help all women, including unemployed, underemployed, single mothers, women of color, LGBTQ plus, and marginalized women to achieve economic empowerment and upward mobility resulting in a plethora of skilled, qualified tradeswomen, to help build and maintain Rhode Island.
To ensure women who enter the trades have a support system to thrive and succeed.
This will be accomplished through recruiting and training women in various skills needed to succeed in the Construction Industry. Advocating for initiatives and policies that help and benefit women in the trades. Promote healthy worksites so women will want to stay in the field they choose. Mentoring, coaching, and child care. These social services will help ensure success for RI WITT’s members throughout their careers. Encouraging women to celebrate their strength and progress and to pay it forward by volunteering to mentor and speak to future members.
Through lived experience, our board members have identified the barriers that keep women from learning trades:
We are dedicated to helping women secure well-paying positions and creating a fair and level playing field:
